Welcome to seventh-grade summer school English! In a short six weeks, we will cover LCSD1 Language Arts Standards in the areas of reading, writing and speaking & listening.
Using the balanced literacy approach, we will read a variety of pieces through a variety of means, including teacher read aloud, literature circles, independent reading and whole-class reading. Students will provide input into the novels, stories, nonfiction and poems we read. The culminating project in reading will be a letter to one of the authors we read that will be sent.
We will also write every day, through responses to literature, reflections, free writes and longer process pieces. At the end of our session, students will have a composition book full of writing and at least three finished process pieces: a poem, a story and an expository essay.
Integrated into our reading and writing will be vocabulary, spelling and grammar practice as well as many speaking and listening opportunities.
