Saint Candidate - Pierre Toussaint

Pierre Toussaint was born in Saint Domingue (Haiti) circa 1781. He was born into slavery on the Breda plantation, which was owned by the Berard family. The Bernard's were a prosperous French Catholic family. In 1797, the Berards fled from Haiti and moved to New York City. Pierre was taken as their house slave.
