St Adelaide of Vilich (960-1015)
Written and researched by Margaret Odrowaz-Sypniewski

St. Adelaide's feast day is February 5th. Adelaide was born in Germany in 960. Her father was Count Megengose of Guelder, who established the convent of Vilich, located on the Rhine River near Cologne. Her father also founded St. Mary's convent in Colgne. Adelaide was an abbess at both of these convents.

At age 40, Adelaide introduced the rule of Saint Benedict at the Vilich convent. St Heribert, the Archbishop of Cologne, consulted her when he needed to make important decision. Her nuns were fluent in Latin.

Adelaide died in 1015 at St. Mary's in Cologne, and was buried in Vilich.
