GENERATION NINE:

Rolf (Rollo) Count of Ronen "The Ganger" The first Norman (Northman) founder of Normandy in 911. He married Gizelle, daughter of Charles III "The Simple" of France acquiring Nuestria which became Normandy. (2) Poppa of Bayeaux.

GENERATION TEN:

William I "Long Sword" Duke of Normandy (D: 943) married Espriota

GENERATION ELEVEN:

Richard I Duke of Normandy (D:996) married Guenera

GENERATION TWELVE:

Richard II "The Good" Duke of Normandy (D: 1026) married Judith of Brittany

GENERATION THIRTEEN:

Robert (D:1035). Arletta of Falaise (his mistress), was the daughter of a local tanner.

Mauger le Jeune, Comte de St. Slair, Archibishop of Rouen. Mauger married a daughter of the House of St. Clair de Bassenville (St. Clair-en-Auge)

GENERATION FOURTEEN:

William II was born in Falaise, Normandy, in the autumn of 1028. William was the duke of Normandy and count of Maine. Later he became William I of England.1066-1087 "The Conqueror" He was crowned in Westminster Abbey on December 25, 1066. William died in St. Gervais, Rouen on September 9, 1087.

Walderne de St. Clair (D:1047)

GENERATION FIFTEEN:

William de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin in 1057 married Dorothy of Raby.

GENERATION SIXTEEN:

Henri de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin. A Crusader with Godefroi de Bouillon. Henri married Rosebelle Fortieth

GENERATION SEVENTEEN:

Henri de St. Clair Baron of Roslin and Scots Privy Councillor. Henri married Margaret Gratney.

Richilde St Clair married Robert de Chaumont, cousin of Hugues de Payens, founder of the Knights Templar.

Catherine de St. Clair, a French Sinclair, was married to Huges de Payens, founder of the Knights Templar.

GENERATION EIGHTEEN:

William de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin 1180. Wiliam married Agnes Dunbar, daughter of Patrick, First Earl of March.

GENEERATION NINETEEN:

Henri de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin, married Katherine, daughter of Earl Strathearn.

GENERATION TWENTY:

Henri de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin, just south of Edinburgh (D: 1270), married Margaret of Mar, daughter of the Earl of Mar.

GENERATION TWENTY-ONE:

William de St. Clair, 6th lord Roslin (D: 1303?) was the guardian of Alexander III of Scotland. William married Matilda, daughter of Magnus (D: 1273) 35th Jarl of Orkney, and was Scottish Ambassador to France. William was a leader in the Scottish War of Independence, who fought with King Robert I, the Bruce.

GENERATION TWENTY-TWO:

Henri de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin and Commmander of the Knights Templars at Bannockburn in 1314. Henri died in 1330 in Spain during the Crusades. He married Alicia de Fenton

GENERATION TWENTY-THREE:

William de St. Clair died in 1330, in Spain during the Crusades, by the Moors in Andalusia. Sir William Sinclair set out with Sir James Douglas and others on a trip to the Holy Lands carrying the heart of Robert the Bruce.

GENERATION TWENTY-FOUR:

William de St. Clair, Baron of Roslin (D:1358), married (1)Isabel of Orkney, daughter of Malise II, the earl of Strathearn, Caithness, and 40th Jarl of Orkney (D:1348) and (2)Marjorie of Ross.

GENERATION TWENTY-FIVE:

Prince Henry Sinclair was born in Roslin. He was baron of Roslin and 1st Scottish earl of Orkney (D: 1400). Henry sailed to America (Nova Scotia) in 1398, 100 years before Christopher Columbus (in 1492). Henry was a great sea lord. Nichodo Zeno, brother of Venetain naval hero, Carlo Zeno, shipwrecked on one of Sinclair's islands. He died, but his brother, Antonio Zeno, was the later made the Admiral of Sinclair's Fleet. Sinclair decided to lead an expedition to the New World and arrrived in what is today Guipborough, Nova Scotia on June 2, 1398. Later they were to reach Westford, Massachusetts, where they proceeded to carve, in a rock, the effigy and arms of a member of the clan Gunn. Zenos traveled to Greenland with Prince Henry. MicMac Indians tell a story of a voyage by Europeans to their land, which parallels the Sinclair voyage.
Henry married (1) Aegidia, daughter of William Douglas, lord of Nithisdale, and (2) Aegidia, Daughter of King Robert II.

GENERATION TWENTY-SIX:

William Sinclair become the Earl of Caithness by grant. He was lord chancellor of Scotland and 2nd earl of Orkney of Scotland in the reign of King James II.
William married (1) Margaret Douglas, daughter of Archibald, earl of Douglas and duke of Turenne in France. (2) Elizabeth Sutherland daughter of Alexander Sutherland of Dunbveath. William died in 1480.

The issue of William and Elizabeth Sinclair were:

GENERATION TWENTY-SEVEN:

Prince Henry Sinclair (D:1480), 3rd earl of Orkney, Lord Newburg. The Orkney islands were annexed to Scotland in 1472.

Catherine Sinclair married Alexander, Duke of Albany.

GENERATION TWENTY-EIGHT:

William Sinclair, 2nd earl of Caithness, married Mary Keith, daughter of Sir William Keith of Innerugy near Buchaness.

William and mary Sinclairs's issue:

.....John Sinclair, 3rd earl of Caithness
.....Alexander Sinclair ancestor of the Sinclairs of Dunbeath. Alexander was slain on September 9, 1513, at the battle of Flodden and was suceeded by his eledest son.

GENERATION TWENTY-NINE:

John Sinclair, 3rd earl of Caithness married Elizabeth Sutherland, daughter of Sir William Sutherland of Duffus, Scotland.

GENERATION THIRTY:

George Sinclair, 4th earl of Caithness married Elizabeth Graham, daughter of William Graham, second earl of Montrose.

George and Elizabeth's issue were:

GENERATION THIRTY-ONE:

John Sinclair, master of Caithness (D: 1577), married Jane Hepburn, daughter of Patrick Hepburn, earl of Bothwell.

Children of John and Jane Sinclair were:

.....John Sinclair, ancestor of the Sinclairs of Greenland, now of Ratter.
