According to the latest census (in 2000), there are 900,335 Polish-Americans in Michigan, up from 889,527 (in 1990). Therefore it makes considerable sense to include a page devoted to the State of Michigan's Polish Community. That is the purpose of this page. I hope you will find something useful here.

Orchard Lake Schools:

Father Joseph Dabrowski (1842-1903) was the founder of what is today known as the Orchard Lake Schools: SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, St. Mary's College, and St. Mary's Preparatory.

2003 marks the death of Fr. Dabrowski. The school's (SS Cyril and Methodius Seminary) establishment (in 1885), on Detroit's east side, of the school originally called "Polish Seminary." The schools moved, in 1909, to Orchard Lake, a northern suburb of Detroit.

Calendar of Events - 2003

February 2, 2003 - "Polish Sunday;" Mass at 1 p.m., Shrine Chapel, Exhibit in Galeria.
February 14, 2003 - Feast of SS. Cyril and Methodius. Mass 11 a.m., Shrine Chapel, for Clergy and Religious of Archdiocese of Detroit; luncheon, lecture to follow.
February 15, 2003 - Visit to Fr. Dabrowski Grave at Mt. Elliot Cemetary, Detroit, Micigan at 12 noon.
February 16, 2003 - Public Observance of Centennial: mass at 1 p.m. in Shrine Chapel; reception to follow.
March 11, 2003 - lecture, 7 p.m. on campus.
June 6-June 15 - Poland Trip to Krakow, Warsaw, Auschwitz, Jasna Gora, and Zakopane. This trip is sponsored by the Continuing Education Department of St Mary's College (deposit is due by February 17, 2003). For more information call: (248) 683-0506 Mr. David Dursam.
June 18, 2003 - Dedication of Fr. Dabrowski statue at Founder's Day.

The American Polish Cultural Society:

Mission: The American Polish Cultural Society is a non-profit organization.

To encourage the participation of Poles and Americans of Polish descent in the pursuit of their Polish heritage, culture, and language.

To bring about awareness of the contributions of Poles and Polish Americans to the people of the United States and the world.

To pursue charitable, literary, educational, and other social and fraternal purposes of Poles and Americans of Polish descent.

Membership: Members are bound by their common culture, traditions, heritage, and Polish language. To become a member you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

You must be of Polish descent

You must be a spouse of a member of the American Polish Cultural Society.

You must be a Polish organization represented by one certified delegate.

Membership Costs:

Lifetime ... $1,000 one-time payment. No annual fees after that.

Supporting ... $100 annual donation. Renewed annually.

Organization ... $2,000 one-time payment. Represented by one delegate.
