My grandmother, Elspeth ("Alice") Lawson (Wilson) to whom this page is dedicated

Elspeth was the 5th born of Thomas Wilson and his second wife, Margaret McFarlane.

GENERATION ONE

Andrew McFarlane was a laborer/stonemason (as was his father-in-law). Andrew MacFarlane was born in 1818. He married Jane Anderson (b. 1817) on June 21, 1839. Jane died January 25, 1899, in Newhouse, Avonbridge, Muiravonside, Stirling, Scotland (at age 82). Andrew died Sunday, November 4, 1900 in Newhouse, Avonbridge, Muiravonside, Stirling, Scotland (at age 82). Their children were:

  1. Marion McFarlane was born April 8, 1856
  2. Margaret Jean McFarlane was born on May 26, 1858 in Avonbridge, Muiravonside, Stirlingshire, Scotland. She married to Thomas Wilson on August 8, 1879 (as his second wife) in Bathgate, Linlithgow. Margaret died December 28, 1900 in Stationhouse, Loanhead, Midlothian, Scotland (at age 42).
  3. Elizabeth McFarlane married (2)Thomas Eliot, a railway surfaceman, was her second husband. It is most likely that he knew Thomas Wilson husband of her sister, Margaret MacFarlane, as they settled in the exact same areas. She was previously married to (1)Thomas Paterson, a stone mason, born around 1835. Their daughter Jane Paterson (known as Jeannie), was born at Muiravonside in 1861 and became a domestic servant. In 1899, gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Elizabeth Paterson. Four years later, in 1891, she married (3)John Gardner, a coal mine pithead man [top of the mine] from Slamannan, Sterling, Scotland; where she died in 1935. There were two sons, John and Robert of the marriage.

    Slamannan

Thomas Paterson may have been born in England - his sister Jean Paterson was born there in 1836 - but I can find no birth record for Thomas. He was the son of John Paterson, a limestone quarryman, born in Linlithgow c. 1787. [this information, on Elizabeth Macfarlane was submitted by Duncan Harrington of the UK.

  4. Robert McFarlane
