John George Bartholomew (1860-1920)
Scottish Cartographer

John George Bartholomew (1860-1920) was a Scottish cartographer. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to John Bartholomew (1831-1893), a map engraver and publisher. After graduating from Ediburgh University he entered his father's firm and publishedthe Survey Atlas of Scotland (1895-1912), followed by a dimilar altas of England and Wales, a Physical Altas of the World (two volumes, 1889-1911), and The Times Survey Altas of the World which appeared (1912) after his death. He is best known for his system of layer coloring of contours.
