Upset-Minded Jaguars come up Short as Oakland Hangs on in OT, 94-92
Oakland went into Indianapolis knowing full well that the IUPUI Jaguars would be looking for an upset. Conference-leading Valparaiso went to Indianapolis earlier this year and the Jaguars took the Crusaders to the wire before Valpo pulled the win out at the end. Once again, the Jaguars were trying to upset one of the top teams of the Mid-Con, and this time around their target were the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland. This time around the Grizzlies needed overtime, but they were still able to hold off the upset-minded Jaguars in overtime, 94-92. More...

An Era Comes to An End as Grizzlies Drop Kangaroos, 72-59 On Saturday night at the 'O'Rena, an era came to an end. 5 Seniors, from 3 different classes, played in their final home game as a member of the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies. All 5 Seniors started the game, and the group didn't disappoint as they held strong and beat UMKC, 72-59.

Valpo - The Class of the Mid-Con
Ever since Oakland made the jump to D-1 four years ago, they've been a member of the Mid-Continent Conference. Oakland chose the Mid-Con for two reasons; 1. the Mid-Con didn't have any Michigan teams in the league, and 2. the Mid-Con was the only one that showed any interest. The basketball team's goal from the start was to make the NCAA Tournament, the "Big Dance". But ever since they've joined, one team has stood in Oakland's way, the Duke of the Mid-Con, the Crusaders of Valparaiso.

February 1st, 2002 - Still Searching for a Wing
Currently, Oakland has received 4 verbal commitments as well as a mid-season transfer. PG John Floyd of Toledo, BF Terrell White of Detroit and C Shawn Hopes of Detroit have all signed letters of intent to play at Oakland next season. Clarkston C Dave Ritzema became a rare midseason commit, giving the Grizzlies a verbal over the break between the end of the preseason and conference play. And finally, BF Courtney Scott transferred to Oakland from Iowa at the semester break, completing the current 5-man class.

By NCAA rule, Oakland can only recruit 5 players for each recruiting season, and 9 players over a two-year period. This is known as the 5/9 rule. However, transfers do not count, so Oakland can still offer one more player. It is fairly obvious that if Oakland decides to use this scholarship (instead of saving it for next year when they'll have only 1 Senior), it will be put toward a wing player. The question remains, who?
