The Modular Taskforce Cruiser was designed according to a new concept in the Imperial Navy, modularity. Rather than constructing specialized ships for each function, this vessel was designed to be reconfigured as needed. The cruiser has an underlaying structure that allows it to be built fast. It is a single frame with engines, skeleton crew quarters, life support system and command compartments, but in the middle of the frame is a single replaceable module with mission specific equipment. In just a day at an orbital dock, the cruiser can be changed from intelligence ship to hospital ship. The armament is light for a ship of its size, but it is intended to be a support ship, not a combat vessel. During dangerous missions, MTCs are normally escorted. Standard modules includes a survey module, an observation module, a hospital module, a rescue module and an interrogation module.
Each mission module is an entire self-contained unit. The module need only be attached to the frame and connected to the power generators, life support and communications ports of the ship in order to work. It is believed that Tagge Industries is working on mini-modules so the Taskforce Cruiser can be outfitted for a variety of smaller-scale functions.

The class was designed and put into production since its predecessor, the CR90 Corellian Corvette, did not have sufficient firepower and was vulnerable in battle. The body of this vessel maintains the same general shape as its predecessor, although it has a different exterior design with a different engine array. It maintains eight large and three small engines all in a complete compact section. The Modified Corvette has been seen in use by the Galactic Empire, New Republic and other organizations and groups. The Empire has used this craft in its System Patrol Squadrons and for armed transports.

This ship was developed together with the Broadcast-class communications ship and came into
service shortly after the famous Imperator-class. They were meant to take care of all needs
of dedicated recon and communications for the Imperial Navy. Although not a lot of
documentation covers the exploits of these ships, it is but another testimony to their
success. While the Boradcast-class is meant to operate as part of fleets, the DeepSapce-class
is meant to be independant. It requires only a small crew, perfect for long-duty missions
deep in unknown territories or enemy space. A large part of the ship is dedicated to an
immense sensor wing containing extremely sensitive equipment, enabling the crew to get a
very exact and detailed view of the surrounding space. Its sensor range is one of the largest
in the Empire. The DeepSpace is only lightly armed, but has enough firepower to deal with
pirates in depth of space. For additional protection of the ship, there is half a squadron
of fighters onboard. The ship also houses another 6 TIE/rc reconnaissance fighters to
help completing the sensor view on difficult space terrain, such as asteroid belts, rifts,
etc. It also carries 20 self-guided sensor buoys which can be deployed up to 100 ly away from
the mothership.
