English 201: My Final Project
Welcome to my site. My name is Tracey Dobbs and the purpose
of this site to explore the novel The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Atwood is one of my favorite authors, which is why I chose this book for my final project. She has a mind that I wish I could explore. So many vivid details and bits of knowledge are embedded within her words, that it absolutely amazes me. I figured that since I had to do this project for class, I should use it as an excuse to read as much of Atwood's writing as I possibly could. They must be incredibly tired of me by now at Barnes & Noble!
With that in mind I decided that my goal with this project would be to examine The Handmaid's Tale as it relates to other works by the same author. Atwood has so many poems, novels, essays, interviews and even more types of writing, that I decided to focus on her poetry. I felt that her poetry would work the best since it conveys strong feelings and emotions within a small amout of text.
What I really wanted to do through this project, is answer some questions for myself and in the process, possibly address issues that others would find of interest. Reading The Handmaid's Tale is an incredible experience, but once you start reading other pieces by Atwood, it gets even better. It's like starting out with chocolate ice cream and ending up with a sundae. You even get the stomach ache if you read some of her more gruesome poems.
I hope that this page makes everyone want to go out and read something by the talented Canadian writer, Margaret Atwood.
