MCH Kaapio Acre's BB Red Butt'ler *S

Hi there, and welcome to Kaapio Acres, we are so glad you are here. We are the Sansone family, Ward, Deena, Amanda and Joe. Sidney is our k-9 kid and Topaz is our cat.
We would like to share with you some facts about our family and farm that we think you will find interesting. We moved to Bancroft, Michigan in the Spring of 1992. We are located half way between two major cities; Lansing, our state capitol, and Flint. It is easy to find us, we are just minutes away from I-69, a main expressway.

In 1994 we decided that with ten acres, we had plenty of room to share. In came our extended family, a couple of Nigerian Dwarf dairy goat kids and a couple of Pygmy kids, and with them came about the establishment of Kaapio Acres Farm. By the way, there are two questions that we are asked most frequently, "Why Kaapio?" and "What does it mean?" The name of our farm is in memory of our heritage, some of our family members came from Finland. Kaapio is the finnish word for Dwarf or Pygmy.

Within the first year we had formed a love for the Nigerian Dwarf, and knew that this was the breed for us. So we found good homes for our Pygmys and proceeded to work with the Nigerian Dwarf, learning all we could about them.
Our second kidding season came and with it, a few more Nigerian does in milk. We were beginning to wonder what we would do with all of that milk? So we tried making different cheeses, ice cream, pies, fudge you name it, we made it. By 1998 we had more milk than we could use and so, we tried making soap.
Our first attempts at soap making, well…, we just won't go there. It took us awhile to get the knack of soap making, and once we did, we found that we really enjoyed it. After working with different recipes, we perfected our own method and types of soap. We started our soap business in 1999 and have been busy making soap ever since.

We have come a long way since we first started breeding dairy goats. We have accomplished much over the years including many Grand Champion and Reserve Champion wins along with some Best Udder wins at the shows. We have been working at improving our milking records on DHI or Official Milk Test. Our latest achievement has made us so proud of our girls. We have just recently received top honors in the Michigan DHI awards.
We have captured the title of "Michigan's All Time Breed Leader" for Nigerians on Official Milk Test. How honored we are to have three of our does place 1st, 3rd and 5th in the top five places in the Michigan DHI awards. And then, what a great surprise it was for us to receive the "American Goat Society's Top Ten" awards and find out that one of our does had made the list! For more information about the does who
have won honorable mention visit our Nigerian page
