In memory of Edgar W. Little

TazTale of the Month:

When Do Stones Cry?

Like many others in life,
I’ve seen stones lying on beaches
                           and roadsides
             all around the world.
I’ve held them in my hand, even
             felt their weight;
collected them, then, thrown them away;
at times, valued their beauty.
But, if stones were compared to
             people in our lives—
I’ve never seen a stone cry.
I’ve seen pieces chipped off,
seen them shattered and cast aside,
but, I’ve never sensed their pain, like others—
                      nor have I thought to care.
But, like those stones, weathering the storms of life,
no matter what you do to them—they’re always there.
      Question is,
When do stones cry?
