National History

Beta Kappa Phi Fraternity Incorporated was founded on October 22, 1976 at Wayne County Community College, in Detroit Michigan. Beta Kappa Phi is unique because it was one of the first Black Greek Lettered Organizations founded at a 2 year college.

The founders were interested in creating an greek letter fraternal organization for students attending a 2 year institution of higher learning that also helped prepare its members for success in the business world. Unsatisfied with what the existing black fraternities were offering at that time, Dr. Leonard M. Monroe, with the assistance from Demetrius M. Wilcox, Andre A. Wheeler, Tyrone Spencer, and Ted Mills created the organization known as Beta Kappa Phi.

Today, Beta Kappa Phi has evolved into an organization that motivates young men to become leaders in the professional world, and within the community. The members in our ranks pride themselves on helping the next generation become prepared for "the real world" in all areas of our society. Our purpose is to make good men better, through our virtues of Wisdom, Beauty and Strength in Excellence.
