Robots in the miltary are becoming very popular. There are now many robots in Iraq being used for various tasks. Some things they do are they patrol and protect areas, seek out mines, carry baggage for the soldiers, etc. These robots are called UGV's, which stands for Unmanned Ground Vehicles.
This robot is one of a few versions of UGV's, this type is called a SWORDS robot.
