By definition a robot is a any machine or mechanical device that operates automatically with humanlike skill.
What will fight our future wars? Will it be humans or machines? With new developments in technology it can be fairly, clearly seen that machines will soon fight our wars for us. But what will keep the machines in line and keep them from rebelling against their human masters? The development of these advanced machines calls for a code to keep them in check and hopefully avoid the humans races extinction. There are already supreme machines used in the field today (battlefield) as spies such as Eagle Eye and the awesome, heavy payload delivering Reaper are some of the newest UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles out there today. With these new developments in military robots can save lives.
Here are some links that can be followed to learn more about military robots. Eagle Eye. Reaper. Hunter.
One robot that has revolutionized the way our artillery and ground troops gather their information/intelligence is the Hunter which has the ability to soar above the battlefield and gather intel to help support ground troops. The Hunter is equipped with infrared cameras that give the Hunter the ability to gather intel by day or night. Thanks to its SAR/MTI (synthetic aperture radar/moving target indicator), Hunter can track a moving target on the ground, lock on via a manned ground unit and drop the laser-guided, Northrop-Grumman BAT / GBU-44/B Viper Strike missile on the unsuspecting enemy below. The Hunter is not totally autonomous it requires a ground unit to control its actions but it helps to save lives since its unmanned and if its shot down nobody would die.

One robot that dominates the field with far seeing cameras and the ability to hover in the same location and gather intel is the Eagle Eye It has the ability and fuel capacity to hover and 20000 feet and gather intel for up to 8 hours. Capable of carrying a 200-pound payload and fitted with SAR/FLIR/TV sensors and laser targeting system, Eagle Eye has the ability to seek out, lock on and deliver a lethal payload to an unsuspecting target. Although it can be controlled by humans Eagle Eye can be programmed to operate autonomously for future operations over the battlefield.

Some other robots that have helped the military are the heavy ordinance Reaper., the mini nearly invisible WASP., and the master of UAV Urban Reconnaissance the Vigilante.. If you want to learn more about these UAV robots you can visit their links.
