The Hall of Legions was spawned from the idea that a magician of any alignment or type should be able to ask an experienced magician the hard questions of their art. With that inspiration The Hall of Legions is a question and answer forum for all caster types. Below is the listed alias, mailing address, and pertinent contact informations for the Masters. The Hall of Legions is constantly a work in progress, as you can see, to answer the questions of aspiring students. People have applied for many of the empty positions, but we are looking for the perfect applicants to fill each position. The ranks are broken into two simple ones: Archluminary and Luminary. Luminary is one who has applied or been asked to join and filled the expectations. Archluminary is one who has surpassed expectation and is able to add another luminary to that caste. We do now allow more than one advisor per art. This is at the discretion of that art's archluminary.
I recently was sent an email asking something along the lines of "Are there any other requirements other than what you've posted?" (they were asking concerning Sorcery), and here's the reply I sent. It's important to get an understanding of what we do here (I've edited the mistakes out):
Here's my idea of what a Master is: Someone that knows, first and foremost, that nobody starts magic by calling all of Hell forth and cracking lightning across the sky. It always starts small and is always difficult. People need help sometimes, and The Hall of Legions is there to try to aide a bit now and then. Masters know more than a regular practitioner due to experience, study, and a general passion for their art. They are capable of more and have a greater degree of control and discipline due to their studies. Masters appear at almost any age. Obviously, you won't be 8 and a Master, but there are some very smart 17 year olds out there and some very dumb 40 year practitioners of every art. It doesn't matter. It's acknowledged that the opposite is most often true but age isn't something I deeply consider when looking for the mind of a Master. The Master is one who cares enough to answer all people as appropriate. They never just give away an answer, will help those that need help, and will give a harsh word if necessary. They communicate clearly and take the time to treat each question like a human who needs answers rather than a number. Basically, that's it. People think I'm supposed to be the "AGH! EVIL! SATAN 666! DIE!" person because I'm a Necromancer, but that's not true. Each Master, regardless of art, is responsible and diligent about helping people learn. If you can do that, I'd love to see your application for Sorcery. It's an art I worry about because it has a lot of followers but currently no champion. I hope that covers everything... It's basically just answering emails, and showing people how to study and learn. It's online teaching in its most noble form.-- Tomekeeper
If you believe you are good enough to be considered a competent and dutiful advisor of your casting art, contact Tomekeeper (as site administrator). You may be interviewed online by up to three of the archluminaries for acceptance. If you simply seek answers, use the preferred method of communication to get as many answers from the preferred caster type as you wish (as a side note to this, though, please do not just message to socialise. It's time consuming.)
For applications please send in a plain text file:
#1. Name for use on The Hall of Legions (e.g. Tomekeeper)
#2. Contact information for release on The Hall of Legions (email, ICQ #, mIRC, etc.)
#3. 1200-3000 word essay. This will be the main criteria of judgment.
#4. A resumee describing at length your qualifications as a reputable and competent advisor of your art.
Please note that all of these addresses have the anti-spam "xyz" inserted. Simply remove it before you hit send and the address will be valid.
Emails sent to the advisors fully become the property of The Library of Knowledge. Email responses are copyright protected and may not be reproduced. By sending correspondences to any of the people listed here or elsewhere on this site, you agree to these terms and conditions. Also, to ensure the email even makes it, do NOT mass CC letters to everyone. Making the subject line of your email immediately recognizable also helps quite a bit. If the name of the caste in question or the word "occult" or something to that effect is in the subject line it becomes easy to identify and respond to the query. If it lacks that distinction, it is very easy to accidentally toss out emails with labels like "Hi", "Question", or "Hey" into the spam pile where they are irretrievably lost. Thanks in advance. Using a little common sense can go a long way to make this process painless. Occasionally there is some spring cleaning to do, but generally emails are the best route to go.
