Valerie Heilig Henderson and Family

I was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 28, 1958, the second child to Norman R. Sr. and Elizabeth Lennon Heilig.  I graduated from Eastmoor Senior High School in 1976 and continued my education at the University of Cincinnati.  Received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting in 1980.  I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for nineteen years, while working for the State of Ohio Auditorís Office as an Auditor and the City of Springdale as the Finance Officer/Tax Commissioner.  Enjoyed life by traveling throughout the United States, South America, Canada and Caribbean Islands.

Met my husband, James Michael Henderson, on September 11, 1993 on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend.  Actually I was suppose to meet my husband in August, but my cousin, Michael Heilig, talked me into flying to Houston, Texas for the weekend for Michele Heilig Burke and Scott Burkeís tenth wedding anniversary party.  J. Michael and I were married on May 27, 1995.

I relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1995 and worked for the City of Springboro, Ohio as the Director of Finance.  I am currently the Financial Advisor to the Senior Vice-President of Academic Affairs at the University of Dayton.  I am a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Government Finance Officerís Association, Government Finance Officer, State of Ohio School Treasurerís Association and University of Cincinnati Alumni.  I enjoy baking, supervising landscaping projects, shopping and raising my daughters.

My husband, J. Michael, is employed with the City of Dayton as a Senior Budget Analyst for the Department of Planning and Community Development.  (Yes, we both are financial and analytical people).  Michael is a steward at our church and a member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity Inc., University of Dayton Alumni.   Mike is an excellent cook, enjoys working in and landscaping the yard and basketball (he the time keeper for the University of Dayton Menís and Womenís Basketball and former coach of our church basketball team).

We have two daughters, Michelle Elizabeth Henderson born February 28, 1997 and Valencia Nicole Henderson born January 26, 1999.  Michelle and Valencia both attend the University of Daytonís Children Center.  Michelle enjoys Winnie the Pooh character, riding her bicycle, playing with dolls, helping with the laundry, and cooking.  Valencia loves to keep up with her big sister, playing in water (our future swimmer) and discovering new adventures.

We have been renovating a 1929 English Tutor home for the last couple of years, new ideas and new projects keep coming up.  We enjoy traveling and living life to the fullest.

We attend Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.  I have truly been blessed in my life and thank God for all blessings and opportunities that he has given me.  I look forward to reuniting/meeting with family members that I have not seen or talked to in a long time.
