About Me

My name is Katie Barkel. I am 16 years old and I am a level 8 and advanced group gymnast on Oakland Rhythmics in Detroit, MI USA. I started in 1996 and have loved the sport ever since! My favorite aspects of the sport are being expressive, performing, dancing, and doing cool tricks and tosses with the apparatus. Rhythmic has also given me the opportunity to make tons of awesome, amazing friends both locally and across the country!! Some of my favorite rhythmic gymnasts are: Maria Petrova, Elena Vitrichenko, Teodora Alexandrova, Evgenia Pavlina, Larisa Loukianenko, Tatiana Ogrizko, Almudena Cid Tostado, Tamara Yerofeeva, Yulia Raskina, Natalia Lipkovskaya, Youlia Barsoukova, Mila Marinova, and Jessica Howard. My favorite apparatus is ball. Other than rhythmic, some of my hobbies are: hanging out with friends, listening to music, making CDs, swimming, dancing, watching tv, going to movies, shopping, tae-bo, sleeping in, and cooking.
