Mingle was last seen at 9:00 p.m. near his mother's residence in the vicinity of the 2200 block of Tuemmler Avenue. He was wearing a white t-shirt, gray cut-off shorts, blue bedroom slippers, and military dog tags with the name "Janice Kent" inscribed on them. A relative of Mingle's saw him get into a dark-colored car. He was employed as a mover with D.C. Moving and was planning to help a friend move that night, but never arrived at the friend's home.
Mingle's friends and family say it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. He left behind six children by four women. One of his associates was murdered after his disappearance; investigators are not sure whether the murder and the disappearance are connected. Mingle's case was upgraded from a simple missing person's case to a critical missing person's case in October 2002, due to the associate's murder and length of time Mingle had been missing. Rumors have circulated that Mingle may have been involved in criminal activity at the time he disappeared, but none of them have been substantiated.
Mingle's family has criticized the police investigating his case, which has been inactive since the detective investigating his disappearance went on maternity leave. The family claims the police did not follow up on tips adequately. Authorities say they are doing everything they can to find Mingle but evidence is lacking.
Mingle remains missing and his case is unsolved.
