A friend of mine up here at good ole CMU wrote a newspaper article about me.  It's almost a full "day-in-the-life-of" type of thing.  I was really impressed with it!  After he interviewed me...I was wowed at what he came up with.

GOOD JOB GREG!

So here it is in it's entirty:

Every Tuesday and Thursday, without fail, Matt Bellehumeur is in the news on Central Michigan University’s campus.

Bellehumeur, a sophomore from Lincoln Park, is a franchise reporter for News Central 34, CMU’s student-produced news program.  Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon he puts together a three-minute “Science and Technology” report for the broadcast.

Bellehumeur was chosen from numerous auditions at the beginning of the semester to be the Science and Technology reporter, a job that he wasn’t totally interested in to begin the semester.  He said that the subject has grown on him though.

“It has definitely increased my interest in Science and Tech.  Sometimes now, I’ll just check to see what’s going on in Science and Tech, without using it in my stories.”

Bellehumeur enjoys his current position, though he still has goals for his future involvement at CMU.  He said that his main interest would be a news anchor position, “or maybe weather.”

He looks forward to an exciting career in Television, despite the fact that he is unsure about what exactly he would like to do with his degree.  He has thought about careers as a crewmember, director, or reporter.

“I didn’t come here thinking about becoming a reporter, but everyone has been telling me that I do a good job.”

Matt has also expressed an early interest in video editing.  It is the part of producing his segment that he enjoys the most.

“I don’t like writing the stories, but if you put me in front of that editing equipment for a couple of hours, I’d be a happy man.”

The editing is something that he has become extremely comfortable with in his early career here at CMU.  “I see it as a great way for me to express my creativity,” he said.

Matt believes firmly in paying attention to the little details, a fact that becomes quite clear upon observing him at work.  A great deal of work goes into his three minutes of airtime.

“I come in at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and on Tuesdays I usually work straight through until my taping at 3:30, on Thursdays I have to work more before showing up, because I have class from noon until 2 p.m.”

Bellehumeur has been involved in the Broadcasting Department ever since he set foot on campus last fall.  He worked as a crewmember in the fall of his freshman year for Morning Edition, and as a crewmember for News Central 34 in the spring of last year prior to becoming a franchise reporter.

In addition to his Television exploits, Matt also finds time to put together news reports for the CMU public radio station, Modern Rock 91.5.

“It’s a little easier than the TV stuff, because you don’t have to concern yourself with how you look, or putting together any video packages.”

Matt’s life isn’t entirely consumed by his news reporting exploits; he is also an avid movie fan.  He spent this past summer working at a movie theatre back home.  He particularly enjoys comedies, listing American Pie and Office Space as two of his favorites.

Matt is a major in the Broadcast and Cinematic Arts Department, with a minor in Earth Sciences.  He says that the BCA Department is pretty good, and he’s glad that he chose the major that he did.

Bellehumeur is also a member of the Honors Program at CMU, as though he didn’t already do enough, and said he enjoys the opportunities that the program has offered him.

To say the least, Matt Bellehumeur is a very busy individual, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.  So don’t be surprised to see his name in the headlines on a constant and consistent basis.
