Macomb Master Gardener of the Year 2002

Macomb Master Gardener of the Year 2002
Lucille Day Class of 1996
Very often in the course of the Master Gardener volunteer internship, people find their niche.
This is exactly the case of Lucille Day who since completing the course in 1996 has become
the MG Garden Walk Coordinator. With Lucille’s gentle persuasion Master Gardeners willingly
volunteer to share their yards and their experiences, their sage advice and sometimes even their sage!
Lucille always puts her yard on the schedule and knows all too well that the agreement to show their
yard for a garden walk can instill fear in even the most confident gardener. But despite those fears,
Lucille has been lining up wonderful opportunities for MG’S to see some of the most interesting and
educational yards and gardens in all of Macomb County. We are extremely pleased to see the
attendance at the walks increasing each year. It takes a lot of time and effort to get the schedule,
directions and a brief description of the garden organized and prepared for print. She is quite
comfortable with the computer and has devised an e-mail list to enhance correspondence regarding the
garden walks. Her “scrap” books and posters are artfully composed to best display her photography
skills. Photos which she generously shares with the State Master Gardener Web Page (have you looked lately?)
Lucille’s countless number of volunteer hours, her attention to detail and her dedication to
Extension and fellow Master Gardeners has been a huge asset to us all. If you have worked up the
nerve to share your yard with fellow MG”S and guest, please let Lucille know.
Nominated in 2002 by Sandra Richards, Horticulture Program Coordinator Macomb MSUE
