STRANGE SORCERER'S STONE PHOTOGRAPHS

Sometimes, I do not know what to make of the odd images that pop up on the World Wide Web. These pictures were picked up from random sources, and all of them have someting in common: they are from Sorcerer's Stone filming, and they are a bit weird. Judge for yourself.

FAKE GRYFFINDORS

This picture appeared in a Berlin, Germany newspaper in 2001. Boy, did that publication and photographer think they had an exclusive: Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint on a closed set! The problem is, these boys are a couple of Radcliffe and Grint's "photo doubles"; that is, they appeared in some scenes where Harry and Ron's faces would not be filmed on-camera. Each actor had three doubles to extend filming time, because the United Kingdom allows child actors to work only four hours a day.

MORE DOUBLES

Here we go again with the doubles; the one playing Harry looks pouty. Director Chris Columbus talks to some of the kids who appeared in scenes from the back and sides in place of Grint, Radcliffe and Emma Watson at the Platform 9 3/4 scenes. Again, some photographer might have thought he had a shot of the leads and their director. And in another note, the man in the cap to the right of the kids seems to bear a very slight resemblance to comic-actor Steve Martin.

INVASION OF THE HAGRID HEAD?

Eeek! We're being attacked by the roving Hagrid Head! Actually in this, the strangest pic of all, a crew member carries a replica of Robbie Coltrane's Hagrid look. This either was for filming a crowd scene, by moving the head through it, or the employee was taking a mask to Coltrane's body double, Martin Bayfield. A closeup shows the head.

STANDING TALL

The final photo shows either body double Bayfield or Coltrane standing on something to truly assume Hagrid's great height. Notice how high above average-sized adults the movie version of the Keeper of the Keys stands.
