SLIME CHAMBER SERIES

This page signals the first real shift from toys tied to The Sorcerer's Stone to those connected to The Chamber of Secrets. Mattel, Inc. has wasted no time in releasing this "Slime Chamber" series that recreates the Chamber of Secrets with a weird twist.

The Slime Chamber box cover shows exactly how the Basilisk spits all over its victims -- in this case, Harry!

As HP fans know, the Basilisk takes people out with his stare that stuns people into a death-like coma. However, Mattel has made the serpent into a slime-spewer, spitting out a green goo that does what to people -- make their robes messy? And then do they freeze up? Here Mattel designers have guessed kids will love playing with slime -- and this is true, to some extent -- so this is a major feature of this series.

The main setting is the "Slime Chamber" itself, a room in which the new, related action figures can be positioned and drenched with the green stuff. There are also seven new action figures released with the chamber -- Harry and Ron with cobweb-covered robes; a cat-eared Hermione; Fred and George Weasley; Griphook the Gringotts goblin; and slimed-up Draco Malfoy. Each character comes with a cauldron and a different colored slime, so you can go Technicolor in splattering figures with Basilisk spit. Additional characters are ANOTHER Lord Voldemort and three Quidditch players, whose team affiliation has not been announced.

The images on this page are crude, because this set is so new. Only the Sylvan Lane Shoppe and Harry Potter Wizard Store have the sets online so far. Many of the Slime Chamber characters and playset can be bought on eBay as well. Better photos eventually will be posted.

Suggested retail for the action figures is the same as the first series -- $9.99. The Slime Chamber is a suggested cost of $24.95. Another thing to note: the Mattel toys based on Chamber will have a small open book on their packaging with "II" (Roman numeral 2) written on its pages.

WORLD OF HOGWARTS PLAYSET ADD-ONS

Mattel gradually will roll out additional Chamber of Secrets playsets for its World of Hogwarts set, introduced in 2001 in conjunction with The Sorcerer's Stone. That original set featured Hogwarts Castle and attachable Hagrid's hut, Platform 9 3/4 and Forbidden Corridor sets.

The newest is this Whomping Willow set, with the aggressive tree of the title, Aragog and his web, Ron and Harry figures, and a convertible (???!!) version of the Ford Anglia. The images below show the front and back of the package. The box says "try me!" as in getting the willow to beat up on the the Anglia!
