This section covers various multimedia items related to the Harry Potter books and movies. I have discovered some wallpaper and screensavers in my figurative "broom flights" through the Internet.
Here is what I've got online so far:
The Magic Pastels of Mary GrandPré. A profile of the artist responsible for the covers on the United States HP editions, and scans of the full cover art of the first four books. The second page of this profile is a showcase of GrandPré's art for other books.
NEW Rowling Sketches. Before any books went to print, or artists dreamed up their visions of Harry Potter and his friends, Rowling did illustrations of her own characters as guides for her writing. See some here.
"Letters to Harry." How the the distinctive lightning bolt Harry Potter title gets "translated" into various foreign alphabets and character sets. With historic sections about the alphabets that hopefully are more exciting than a Professor Binns lecture.
The Many Faces of Harry. J.K. Rowling has said that ideally there shouldn't be any pictures in her books, so readers can completely imagine their own Harry. But there still have been many pictures drawn of the boy wizard. See many of them on this page.
Hogwarts! Oh Hoggy, Warty Hogwarts! See a beautiful painting by artist Michael Bramman showing how Warner Bros. and Heyday Films envisoned Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the Sunday Times.
Fan Art. The start of fan contributions. Your picture could be here, too.
Additional media.
--Computer desktops contributed by Israel "Izzy" Long, a Web and graphic designer from Minnesota, USA. These desktops can be used as the "wallpaper" behind the desktop display on your computer monitor. They are done in the style of a Hogwarts admissions letter. (ADDED JULY 2002). 1024 X 768 OR 800 X 600
Miscellaneous Multimedia. Screensavers from Warner Bros. and Scholastic; coloring pictures based on the movie from Warners; Harry vs. the dragon from China; some free Harry Potter-style fonts for you to download and use.
