HARRY POTTER PRODUCTS GALLERY: COLLECTIBLES, PART 6
SCHYLLING COLLECTIBLES
The Schylling Toy Co., of Rowley, Massachusetts, USA, specializes in metal tins, lunchboxes and signs, many featuring licensed characters, such as Classic Pooh, Madeleine and Curious George. Harry Potter was added to their stable in 2000. The items at left are their metal HP line. (1) A covered tin pencil tray portrays Harry's success in nabbing the right key, with Ron and Hermione in the background. About $8. (2) A bank shaped, naturally, like the Gringotts Wizarding Bank. About $9. (3) The Hedwig Mechanical Bank is intriguing because its mechanical, battery free effects are so old-fashioned. Insert a coin, and the owl winks at you. A message also appears in the bottom, such as "Sickles are silver." (4) A flat Harry box with handle features him trying out his magic wand. About $13-$15.
Hallmark Cards, Inc., got into the metal collectibles a little bit. The "School Days" lunchbox just like the kinds kids carried in the 1960s and '70s (I remember 'em well). The artwork is by Warner Bros. artist Fred Bode. The front features Harry capturing the Golden Snitch, and the back has the "Journey to Hogwarts" artwork of the first years crossing the lake in boats. About $7-$10.
BANKS
Hallmark sold this ceramic Gringotts bank in 2001. Now, it isn't metal, but I couldn't really find any other place to put it. The detail is nice -- the red-coated goblin who bows to people at the door is there, and your money tumbles, appropriately, into the "vaults" in the bottom. Hallmark's suggested retail is $24.95.
