MATTEL FIGURINES

Mattel issued two series of diecast figurines to tie in with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The first was a set of eight tiny figurines paired with appropriate books from the wizarding world. The plastic books used actual titles from J.K. Rowling's novels and had covers that opened. The figurines could be hidden inside the books. Cost is about $12 each.

"VEHICLES" SERIES

These four diecast metal and plastic characters all have wheels that turn. So, Hagrid can fly (along the ground) and he, Harry and Griphook can pretend to whip down the subterranean vaults at Gringotts. Cost is about $15 each.

MAGICAL MINIS COLLECTION

In early 2002, Mattel released the first five of the Magical Minis Collection of magnetized characters. Each wizard comes with a pet or closely associated animal. "WAVE WAND/UMBRELLA. (Name of Animal) magically moves!" says each package, depending on the critter involved. Figurines are made of plastic. This is a "transitional" series that is neither totally Sorcerer's Stone nor Chamber of Secrets. Many of the creatures from Stone are here (Hagrid has Norbert again!), and also the first representation of Dumbledore's Fawkes, a star performer in Chamber. More characters in the series are due in fall 2002, just in time for the Chamber movie. Eventually better images will be posted. Suggested retail is $9.95 each.
