Keychains could be classifed many ways -- as toys, as functional items, or as collector's pieces. There is even a convention for keychain lovers to be held at the Mall of America in spring 2002. Perhaps some of them are also Harry Potter fans.

"Better be Gryffindor! ... No! Slytherin! ... No, wait! Ravenclaw! ... Well, maybe Hufflepuff!" This plastic keychain combines Hogwarts' famous Sorting Hat with the old Magic 8-Ball toy. Ask the hat into which Hogwarts house you should be selected, turn it over, and see a small block inside a fluid, which reveals the house name. It retails for $10-$12. |
| You, too, can capture and hold the elusive Golden Snitch with this soft fabric version of Quidditch's most prized ball. It is composed of a shiny gold fabric with iridescent white wings and is attached to a gold-tone chain with a lightning bolt title tag. Cost is about $10. | ![]() |
In early 2001, Warner Bros. Consumer Products promoted Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by distributing a limited number of cards with lightning bolt "tattoos." These full-color promo items had a laminated folder with the HP movie teaser poster owl and movie title on the outside, and a golden tattoo on the inside. Chris Co., Inc., of Morristown, New Jersey, USA, created this version of its Tattoo Hangtags, which are little removable stick-ons designed to help companies promote their products. (A "hangtag" is retailer jargon for a little paper tag either dangling off an item, or to which the item is attached so it can be hung by a hook.) I have seen these stickers on eBay for $3-$4.
