HARRY POTTER PRODUCTS GALLERY:
CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES, PART 4 -- FOSSIL WATCHES

Fossil, Inc., based in Richardson, Texas, USA, has created two collectible, slightly expensive timepieces to tie in with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

The neatest of the two Fossil collectibles has to be this replica of Albus Dumbledore's pocket watch. J.K. Rowling explicitly describes it in Chapter 1 of Sorcerer's Stone: It has planets in place the numbers and 12 hands instead of two. This watch has those features and a little poem on the inside of the cover to inform Muggles to tell time with the two gold hands and ignore the rest. The watch has a suggested retail of $105. It comes in a mahogany finish case bearing a brass Hogwarts shield, "inspired by Old World trunks," as Fossil puts it.

The Mirror of Erised has a very simple design. Its "red sunray" dial is individually numbered, and a fake Sorcerer's Stone has been installed at 12 o'clock. The Harry Potter name logo is in gold. (Gryffindor colors for the watch?) The mirror package copies the movie's design for the Erised looking glass, complete with the saying across the top: "I show not your face, but your heart's desire." The mirror box has a gimmick that when you turn its light on, the watch magically appears. If this $90 timepiece is YOUR heart's desire, then this Mirror of Erised is accurate. For others whose heart's desire lies somewhere else, who knows?

"Ravenclaw ... those with wit and learning ... Gryffindor ... brave at heart ... Slytherin ... mischievous and cunning ... Hufflepuff ... the just and loyal..." Fossil had that to say about its second series, the Sorting Hat watches.

Four different styles were featured, each bearing the Warner Bros. design for the Hogwarts houses. The watch face bears a molded likeness of the house crest, and the leather strap is edged in a house color. Every watch comes in the plastic case (pictured) that resembles the Sorting Hat. Production of each house style was limited to 1,000. Cost was $110.
