Principal photography began 18 November 2001 in the United Kingdom. Director Columbus said the movie was a 200-day shoot. Soundstage work was done at Leavesden Studios near London, England.
Some filming for Chamber was done in late 2001, including the Forbidden Forest scenes, at Black Park near the Pinewood Studios grounds.
Alnwick Castle returned as a Hogwarts exterior.
King's Cross filming was done in February 2002.
Second unit filming near Glenfinnan, Scotland was done in September 2001 with the Hogwarts Express and child extras as Hogwarts students.
A site near the village of Watford, in southwest Hertfordshire County, was selected for construction of a mockup of The Burrow, the Weasley family home.
Huskeiran Isle, off the Scottish coast, will be used in April 2002, most likely for Azkaban. More locations will be announced later.
