Before you go out and buy a gerbil, You have a lot of things to decide…. How many? Male or Female? Do you prefer a special color? Do you want to breed? Here is some answers to those questions... How many? Gerbils are extremely sociable animals, meaning they do better in 2 or more. They strive for each others attention, so if your going to buy gerbils, buy at least 2. Gerbils that are lonesome are really nervous and skittish, also a lone gerbil is often extremely bored. I find that gerbils that are left alone seem to live shorter lives, and are obese. Male or Female? In the gerbil species I find that it really doesn't make to much of a difference as a wholesome pet. Females get a little leery in, it seems in packs of 3 or more. Male's though seem to with- stand packs of 3 or more. With same-sex pairs both male and female would be suitable. Colors? Gerbils come In many different colors. You may want to decide a color at the gerbil color palette. Do you want to breed? I highly discourage breeding gerbils, without a good amount of gerbil experience. Breeding gerbils is not a good way to earn money, truthfully you lose more money then you gain. Gerbils, like any rodent, populate very quickly and if you don't know what your doing could be stuck with more gerbils then you bargained for! Also you must know all that you can before breeding! |
