Many owners, and breeders are willing to tell you that pine and cedar are big NoNo's when it comes to small animal keeping, well I am one of those! Pine and cedar contain added scents and oils that can be harmful and rather dangerous to gerbils and pups. In pups expecially, due to respritory diseases that can occour in a young age.
Try using aspen or corncob instead of pine or cedar. We all know its alittle bit more expensive, but you are or maybe soon a gerbil owner, and no animal is ever "cheap". If you are one of those people that needs more convencing on the subject please visit any of the following websites, they all state the same!
