CHEERLEADING EXPECTATIONS

The following guidelines will be followed to assure that as cheerleaders a positive example is being displayed at ALL TIMES! ALL RULES ARE IN EFFECT AS SOON AS YOU MAKE THE TEAM!

The coach and administration will take disciplinary actions, if the guidelines set forth by the Lapeer Community School’s athletic code and these guidelines are not followed. Please bring a signed copy (parent and cheerleader) of this guideline to the first practice.

1. Practice will be held at the time and place appointed by the coaches according to the school program. Team members are expected to be dressed in proper uniform, hair up, no jewelry and correct shoes for the activity. Cheerleaders must be ready to bring practice on time.

2. Cheerleaders are expected not to hold a job that will interfere with any cheerleading activities. If a job is necessary, make sure they will work around your cheerleading schedule.

3. Cheerleaders with grade point averages below 2.5 will be required to turn in a weekly progress report to parents and/or coaches.

4. CONSUMPTION of drugs, alcohol, tobacco products or remaining in the presence of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products at a party or gathering will result in loss of uniform privileges for the remainder of the season or determined by the coach, parents, and cheerleader. IN ADDITION, SPECIFIC GUIDELINES IN THE SCHOOL ATHLETIC CODE PERTAINING TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL RELATED INCIDENTS WILL BE FOLLOWED.

5. Absolutely NO show of affection while in uniform. You are representing yourself as well as your team members. Some explicit actions out of uniform in regular clothes can be disciplined, as YOU are known as a cheerleader for our school.

6. Cheerleaders are expected to be in appropriate, clean uniforms for school practice and games, competitions, and events. Jewelry (safety) / all other non- uniform clothing shall not be worn. Excessive problems will result in the immediate loss of uniform privileges for the remainder of the season or until determined by coaches, cheerleaders and parent.

7. Friends will not be allowed into practice sessions. It is expected that parent will notify coaches of any intention to attend practice.

8. It is expected that parents will not use cheerleaders as a punishment. This will not only effect the cheerleader but the entire team.

9. Uniforms are OWNED by the Lapeer Community Schools. They are to be maintained correctly by each cheerleader. If lost, abused the replacement cost must be paid for by the student who is assigned to that uniform. (Uniforms are difficult to replace because of frequent style changes by the manufactures.)

10. GAME DAYS:

Cheerleaders will be present ONE hour prior to and until 10 minutes after each game. Cheerleaders must stay with the team, unless given permission by the coaches.

    HOME GAMES:

  • Cheerleaders must meet the team and coaches at the North Annex ONE hour prior to the game.

    AWAY GAMES and COMETITIONS:

  • Cheerleaders must meet in the North Annex 15 minutes prior to bus departures, unless instructed otherwise.

    Attendance Policy for Cheerleading:

    Posted June 3, 2001

All cheerleaders will be given a monthly cheerleading calendar TWO weeks prior to the beginning of each month. It is expected all cheerleaders will be in attendance, on time and in proper dress (proper uniform, clean shoes and hair up tightly) for all practices, games and cheerleading events as posted on their calendar. Please review the following policies and discuss with the coach any problems.

Coaches must be notified by the cheerleader or the parent prior to an event being missed. Please give as much time as possible. At the time of contact, the cheerleader or parent will be notified by the coach if this will be considered an excused or an unexcused absence.

    EXCUSED ABSENCE:

( Three * excused absences (in any of these areas) will equal one unexcused absence)

Doctor or dentist appointment with a note signed by the doctor/ office.*
    Illness*
    Funerals
    School / academic functions
    Family functions*

    UNEXCUSED ABSENCE:

Doctors or dentist appointment without a note
    Work or Job
    Other personal business
Any absence without prior contact with the coach

Any starred item* in any area will equal one unexcused absence.

3 unexcused tardies or deviation from the dress code for a particular event
    will equal one unexcused absence.

ANY TIME TAKEN OFF, REGARDLESS OF THE REASON,
MUST BE MADE UP WITHIN ONE WEEK OF THE ABSCENCES.

Your second (2nd) unexcused absence will result in dismissal from the team for the remainder of the season. Any questions about the policies should be brought to the attention of the coach as soon as possible.

Bring your agreement paper, signed by a parent and cheerleader to the coaches first practice session.
