Supernovas

Supernova: An explosion of a star that causes the star to shine millions of times brighter than usual.

In my warped little mind, that perfectly defines a Fic Pick. Because if all fics on the net were stars, those I tab to be fic picks would be supernovas, because they shine brighter than all the rest *G*. Like I said, warped little mind. But hey, it goes along with the stars concept of the site. Homage must be paid to Frala & AJ for the Fic Pick concept and for letting me yoink it, and to Natalie for the Supernova name *loves you all*.

Title:Drew Henson Takes Command

Author: Robert Foust

Fandom: NFL Football

Characters: Drew Henson/Original Character

Rating: NC-17

Summary: Drew Henson has a bad game, and afterward runs into someone (literally) and decides to make himself feel better...

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: It will be, as soon as I get a printer.

Why it shines and you should check it out: SO incredibly hot. I'm not much into football myself, but Drew Henson is hot as hell, and he really sets off this fic. The author writes him as the perfect Dom character, cocky and rough and sexy, and mrrowl. The Dom dialogue is great in all three parts, really sets the mood, and the sex is fabulous. If you like the Dom/sub roles in a fic, you will LOVE this. Hell, even if you don't like that, and just like great smutfics, you'll love this. One of the better smutfics I've read in a long while, you should definitely give it a read.

Title:The Two Of Us

Author: SandCassels

Fandom: Wrestling

Characters: Mike Richter/Brian Leetch

Rating: G

Summary: There's really more than one way to hold a conversation with someone you love. SandCassels Notes: It's best if you read "Reaching Out" prior to reading this, but it's not really necessary - it can stand on its own, but I wouldn't recommend it. The candy in this fic aren't the regular candy hearts for Valentine's Day, they're a different brand and they're bigger in size, but they do exist and the three that are quoted were in a roll I had, thus the fic was born.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Definitely, this is not only one of my favorites of SandCassels fics, but one of my favorite (non-sappy) Valentines fics as well.

Why it shines and you should check it out: This is one of the more inventive fics I've ever read, and I love it. You'd think a fic centered around candy hearts would be all sappy and fluffy, but this just isn't. It's serious, and emotional, and sweet, but it doesn't overdo any of it. It's just perfectly written, by a SERIOUSLY underrated writer. SandCassels is such a fabulous writer in the hockey fandom, but she's overlooked because she doesn't write much. This is one of her best works, and one of my favorite fics, so you should definitely check it out. And feedback, maybe we can get her to write more.

Title:Christmas Time

Author: Jai

Fandom: Wrestling

Characters: Matt Hardy/Jeff Hardy

Rating: NC-17 incest

Summary: Matt and Jeff learn about Christmas miracles...

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Indeed it is. Jai's Christmas fics are definitely some of my favorites ever, if not my absolute favorites.

Why it shines and you should check it out: I adore this fic to death. This was one of the first Christmas fics I ever read when I started getting involved in fic, and I fell in love. The emotions in this are so powerful, and it's just so sweet, with great dialogue and a wonderfully written back story told throughout. It's just a great fic, really well written, and it fills me with the Christmas spirit. Ignore the stars and the fact that it's incest, and just enjoy the story, because it's terrific.

Title:Meet You There

Author: Natalie

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Andrew Ference/Alexei Kovalev

Rating: PG

Summary: January 10, 2003: Andrew Ference is traded to Calgary, away from Pittsburgh, away from Alexei Kovalev. When they meet for their last moments together, they find out that Andrew isn't the only one moving away...

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Abso-freaking-lutely. There are few things more deserving of being there than this

Why it shines and you should check it out: The emotions, dear god the emotions. You can feel every little bit of what the characters in this fic feel, it's so powerfully written. Natalie is really one of the best there is when it comes to description, and that is certainly not lacking in this fic. This had me in tears the first time I read it, it's simply incredible. Do yourself a favor and give it a read, but don't be surprised when the tears show up.

Title:Where the Day Takes You

Author: Stasia

Fandom: WWE wrestling

Characters: AU Jeff Hardy and various other wrestlers

Rating: NC-17 for incest, drug abuse, violence and character death

Summary: Twenty-four hours in the messed up life of Jeff Hardy.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Yep, a long time resident of the table, it was one of the first wrestle-fics to get there.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Awesome writing from top to bottom. I loved this story years back when I first read it, and I still love it to this day. It's AU, and one of the most original AU's I've ever read in my life. It's got a great realistic, gritty drama feel to it, and it's told through the eyes of a very powerfully written main character. This fic inspired me to write "There For Me", and I didn't come anywhere near the greatness of this fic. Read it, love it, you won't be disappointed.

Title:Come To My Window

Author: Chrissy

Fandom: Olympic Gymnastics

Characters: Morgan Hamm/Paul Hamm, with an appearance by Blaine Wilson

Rating: NC-17 for sex and incest

Summary: After the 2004 Olympics are over, Paul and Morgan finally (finally!) have a chance to celebrate. WARNING for explicit twincest.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Yes, this was worthy of me breaking work rules and printing it there *G*

Why it shines and you should check it out: TWINCEST! Okay yeah, I realize most of you probably won't read it because of that fact, but I have no qualms about Supernova-ing it because A. I've already WRITTEN cest in my life, and B. it's Hammcest, and I'm in a very Hamm place right now in the wake of the Olympics. But beyond that, Chrissy's writing is just FABULOUS, as I'm sure you all know, and that is no different here. She characterizes these guys perfectly, coupled in with some great imagery, some great lines, and some great smut, and you've got yourself an awesome fic. You'd be doing yourself a favor checking this one out, believe me.

Title:Sweat For Me

Author: The Smooth One

Fandom: X-Men X2

Characters: Bobby/Marie/John, aka Iceman/Rogue/Pyro

Rating: Definitely R, maybe NC-17

Summary: Being satisfaction for a kink has never been so good.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: It probably should be, but it's not. That doesn't mean I love it any less than others though, just means I'm too stupid to remember to print things when I read them.

Why it shines and you should check it out: I love the imagery in here. I've said it before, I'll say it again, The Smooth One is very easily the best author in the X-Men fandom, and this is a little more proof. I've never Supernovaed anything quite like this (i.e. with a woman in a sexual role) before, but this is truly deserving. Awesome (and really hot) imagery, the great writing that The Smooth One always brings to the table, and the little bit of kink makes it even better. Don't fear, but appreciate the presence of Rogue here, because it wouldn't be much of a fic without her (Yes I'm gay, but I still love her in this.) So gay, bi, straight or otherwise, you should definitely check this out, because I love it. I bet you will too.

July

Title:Remember The Nights

Author: Arami

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Rick Nash/Andrew Raycroft

Rating: NC-17 to the max

Summary: When accepting the Rocket Richard trophy at the NHL awards, Rick looked kinda disheveled, Arami knows why and decided to tell us in excruciatingly hot detail.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: *weeps* no, I don't have printer ink right now, otherwise it would definitely be there.

Why it shines and you should check it out: This fic goes hotter than the average oven by a good 8 million degrees. Rick and Andrew together would be hot all on its own, but what Ara does to them here could melt your monitor. Seriously, this is one of the hottest fics I've ever read, I bow to Ara's greatness. You might not like (or know) either one of these guys, but you owe it to yourself to check this out (pics are provided on the page). If you want smut, and you want smut done right, this is the fic for you.

Title:Heat

Author: Robyn

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Mike Comrie/Mike Modano

Rating: Probably PG

Summary: An unexpected Edmonton heatwave unites two very unlikely inviduals...

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Indeedy, I love this fic to pieces.

Why it shines and you should check it out: This is just awesome. This is one of the first fics I can remember reading when I started to get heavily involved with the Hockey fandoms, and I still love it to this day. Great images, great dialogue, great writing, there's nothing bad about this (unless you count that whole Oiler/Star rivalry thing). The way it's told is really inventive, it's sort of a surprise at the end when you finally figure it out. This is just a really fun fic overall, and you'd be doing yourself well to read it.

Title:New To This State

Author: Ardveche

Fandom: Original

Characters: OCs Drew and Curtis, and some others scattered about

Rating: NC-17

Summary: Drew is the new boy at a new school, and the friends he makes will last the rest of his life. But how will he cope with his feelings and the weight of peer pressure?

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Oh hell yes. This was, I do believe, the first thing to ever make it to the table.

Why it shines and you should check it out: God, the writing quality in this is just fabulous. It's no secret that this was the fic that inspired me to write "erotica" myself, and to post it on Eroticstories.com, the first place I posted and the first place I read this fic. It's really not even an erotic story, it's just an amazing story beautifully told with erotic parts in it. If you like good writing, you'd be doing yourself a favor to read this fic, if you haven't already. I cannot say express how much I love this fic.

Title:Strip Poker

Author: Rebecca

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Kirk Maltby/Kris Draper/Darren McCarty

Rating: NC-17 for graphic smut, and spanking

Summary: The title pretty much says it all. The Grind Line amuse themselves on a day off.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Indeed. This was written for ME, of course it's got to be there. This one has a bent spine from being read so much.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Spanking! This fic is SO hot, you could heat your house with it. These three are oh so hot together on the normal, but what Rebecca does with them should be criminal. I cannot stress enough the hotness of this fic, you just have to read it for yourself and see. Make sure to have a cool drink readily available. Or a cold shower, whatever works for you.

Title: No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground

Author: Flannery

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Steve Yzerman/Brendan Shanahan

Rating: Rated R for language, sexuality, mature themes, and Mpreg

Summary:...and with three you get eggroll. Set on stage of the Theater of the Absurd. this is a story that's more than a little off-kilter. my first real journey into the theater of the absurd. please check all scientific knowledge, curiosity, and questionings at the door. accept everything as face value. keep your hands and arms inside the car, and enjoy the ride

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: This fic is so good, the Coffee Table prays to it. This is the Coffee Table's God.

Why it shines and you should check it out: There are no words. Seriously, this could be the very best piece of writing that I have ever read in my life. Fic, books, poetry, anything, this could kick the ass of them all. Flannery is INSANELY talented, and she shows you that in this fic. You connect with the characters from the very beginning, you feel every little thing they do, every joy every twinge of pain. This fic WILL affect you, I guarantee it. Yes, it's Mpreg (which for those of you that don't know, is male pregnancy), but it is written in a way that Mpreg has never been written. Flannery handles it with class, maturity and respect, all of which you may never seen in any other mpreg. This fic is breathtaking, plain and simple. If you enjoy good literature, of any variety, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

Title: Ravenous

Author: Mae

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Patrick Marleau

Rating: R for some violence and sexual situations

Summary: But over the years, his words have become what I know, what I am - useless, worthless. He has always told me that I am nothing. And now all of my being believes it and embraces it.. No real summary this week, and I could never put this fic into words. That there is a snippet from it, that sort of explains how things go in the fic.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Of course. This is one of the best fics I've ever read, and maybe my favorite of Mae's fic.

Why it shines and you should check it out: This is just completely awesome from top to bottom. Mae is so insanely good, and it really shows in this. She taps into the emotions perfectly, and her descriptions of everything that happens are just beyond compare. I could never do this fic justice with words, you have to check it out and see for yourself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, this is so very awesome. Definitely one of my All Time favorite fics.

Title: Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut

Author: Frala

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Andrew Ference/Jiri Fischer/Steve Yzerman

Rating: NC-17, PWP

Summary: Umm… Jiri and Andy accidentally meet up with Steve on his 'secret' vacation. Oh yeah and there is chocolate.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Mmhmm, the Coffee Table has a sweet tooth too, you know *G*

Why it shines and you should check it out: Frala is the Queen of Smut for a reason, and this shows just a little tiny bit why. No one can do smut like Frala, I bow to her. Such yummy images in here, and hot hot smut, and yes, chocolate. And really, every fic would be better with a little bit of chocolate *G*. I love this fic to ooey gooey chocolatey pieces, so it's a perfect one to kick off the New Year.

Title: Holiday Cheer

Author: Jai

Fandom: Wrestling

Characters: Jeff Hardy/Matt Hardy

Rating: NC-17, incest

Summary: Jeff sets Matt's holiday priorities straight

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Absolutely, this is one of my all-time favorite Christmas fics.

Why it shines and you should check it out: This is just an all around awesome fic. Great imagery, great writing, great (and very unique) usage of a Christmas classic, and mucho yummy smut, I love this fic to itty bitty pieces. Yeah, it's Hardyzcest, and that might be a turn off to some, but this fic is just really awesome. It would be great regardless of the characters in it, they just happen to be the Hardys. So open your mind and give it a read, because everyone should read something so good. Tis the season, after all.

November 28

Title: The Drive Home

Author: Natalie

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Kris Beech/Andrew Ference

Rating: NC-17

Summary: After a long summer apart...what happens when Andy gives Kris a ride from the first day of Training Camp?

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Indeed. Stuff this hot MUST be on the table.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Road head! I, like a freak, enjoy the naughtiness of the concept, and Natalie writes it perfectly here. These two are just so damned yummy, and the smut here is superb. What makes it even better is these two really DID used to ride together, and any true slasher has to believe that stuff happened, because these two are, as we say in the business, SOINLOVE. It's all so very hot, with awesome descriptions, and just enough cuteness to leave you with a fuzzy feeling at the end. Read this, or you'll be missing out on one hot fic *loves it so*

November 21

Title: It Is Real

Author: The Smooth One

Fandom: X-Men (X-2 movieverse specifically)

Characters: Pyro/Iceman, St. John/Bobby, whatever you want to call them.

Rating: R for mucho mucho angst.

Summary: Um, John gets into some major trouble, and bad, angsty stuff happens. (Come on now, you know I suck at summaries and the author didn't provide one this week)

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Oh yes. When I feel the need to sob like a baby, I read this.

Why it shines and you should check it out: The writing, DEAR GOD the writing *loves*. The Smooth One is very easily the best author in the X-Men fandom, and it really shows in this fic. SO. MUCH. ANGST, but it is so damn good, I could just eat this fic right up. Such incredible images, and spectacular dialogue, and the writing *in awe*. Seriously, if I could even a fraction as good as The Smooth One, I'd be a happy man. If you appreciate great writing, and awesome angst, you MUST check this out. X-Men fan or not, this fic fucking owns *loves to itty bitty pieces*

November 14

Title: Cleanse

Author: Mynx

Fandom: Wrestling

Characters: Sylvan Grenier and Rene Dupree of La Resistance

Rating: NC-17, slash

Summary: Sex and spit. Pretty french boys have sex.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Not yet, but it should be. Someone remind me to get printer ink.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Serious amounts of hotness. These two are freaking beautiful, and they have lots of hot sex in this, what is not to love? There is a lot more than that though. Mynx fills this with awesome imagery, and very eloquent writing, that really makes this more than just an ordinary PWP. If you appreciate good writing, you should check this out. Even if you don't like smut, you'll probably like this.

November 7

Title: Educating Alex

Author: Ardveche

Fandom: Original

Characters: Ryan, Alex, some others. All OC characters here.

Rating: NC-17, slash

Summary: A mix-up in housing causes the boys to be thrown together, and both of their lives to change forever.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: This was probably the second thing to ever hit the table, back before it was the Coffee Table O' Fic, and just a coffee table with awesome fic on it.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Because it rocks? Seriously, this is one of the best things I've ever read, one of the ones that made me think "WHY do I write, I will NEVER be that good!" This is just sweet, and very unique, very realistically written, and insanely hot at times. It's kind of long, but you won't regret checking it out, trust me. This story is just superb from top to bottom *loves it*.

October 31

Title: Clumsy

Author: Chrissy

Fandom: Hockey

Characters: Boyd Devereaux, Steve Yzerman. Brendan Shanahan and Mathieu Dandenault also appear.

Rating: NC-17, slash

Summary: Sometimes, things happen. Things like crushes. Things like falling in love with someone who absolutely cannot have a relationship with you. Things like not being about to stop thinking about someone 14 years your junior. Things like pain, the way you deal with it, or the way you reach out to someone to help them through it. Things like love knowing no limits.

On the Coffee Table O' Fic?: Oh yes, one of the first hockey fics to ever get there.

Why it shines and you should check it out: Because this started my addiction to hockey slash *G*. I can safely say had I never read this story, I never would've written hockey slash after Whore of Hockeytown. This is by far one of the best things I've ever read, and probably my favorite of all of Chrissy's fic. There is just incredible emotion in this fic, you find yourself connecting with even the minor characters. And also, there is one of the best kisses ever in hockey fic in this. If you consider yourself a hockey fic fan, you MUST read this, because it could easily be the best in the entire fandom.
