Scrletpyper ...I Heard The Pipes Cry!

Scrletpyper is a man know to some of those here on the "net". Unfortunately not all know of him, nor know the kind of man he is, or the things he has done.

Scrletpyper is know as Eric to many of us, and I think those of you who know him know he has given much of himself to the memory of our fallen veterans. Eric has played bagpipes in Washington, DC at "The Wall", and at the Woman's Memorial. He has also played at various moving walls.

He is an accomplished musician, and has served in many capacities in various bagpiper organizations he has been a member of.

It is hard to list his accomplishments here. He is a businessman, and is very busy, yet he finds the time to pay his respect to all the Veterans who have lost their lives or made other sacrifices for our country. So....... Eric this one is for you with my deepest respect.

I Heard The Pipes Cry

I stood in the mist on a cold dark night
My mind was reeling, my heart felt tight.
I watched the people walk past the wall,
I tried to step forward but started to fall.

A man at my side grabbed my arm and held tight.
His face and his eyes said, “We’re united this night.”
I tried to thank him but I couldn’t speak,
As on one leg he held me, while I righted my feet.

He became my escort, so proud and tall
And walked me up to the glistening wall.
Section 10, they told me was where I should look,
And there his name appeared and I knew that I shook.

I stood there with paper and pencil in hand,
And tears started to fall because I could not reach.
The man at my side gently asked me “Which name?”
Then he placed the paper in place and rubbed over his name.

It now was so final I knew it was true,
I would never see you again my childhood friend.
I had heard you were killed in that far foreign land,
But I never was able to put it to rest.

Off in the distance a familiar sound I did hear,
The sound of bagpipes, playing ever so clear.
When I said my goodbye, in my heart I knew,
That the pipes someone played were crying for you.
