Elvis Presley, THE STORY

 

-1935-

Elvis started his life in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935. 

His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn.

-1953-

After graduation, in the summer of 1953, Elvis worked for Parker Machinist Shop.

-1954-

In January 1954, Elvis  makes another demo acetate at Sun. 

Sam Phillips, the owner, is in this time and, like Marion Keisker, is intrigued by this unusual looking and sounding young man.

-1955-

Elvis signs a management contract with Hank Snow Attractions, which is owned equally by Snow and Colonel Tom Parker. 

Colonel Parker is to be Elvis’ exclusive manager from this time on, and Snow is soon no longer connected to Elvis.

-1956-

His fame is skyrocketing and the young Elvis creates hysteria everywhere he goes. 

-1957-

In March, Elvis purchases Graceland Mansion.

-1958-

March 24,  Elvis is inducted into the U.S. Army

-1959-

Gladys, Elvis mother passes away on August 14 at the age of 42. 

-1960-

In November, Elvis meets fourteen year old Priscilla Ann Beaulieu.

-1961-

 Elvis' charitable nature begins to blossom when he performs in Memphis.

-1962-

In addition to his movie hits, Elvis has continued to release non-movie related music.

-1963-

Priscilla moves to Memphis.

-1964-

Elvis is becoming bored and unsatisfied with his career as a movie star.

-1965-

Non-movie related recordings continue and Elvis finishes his nineteenth picture.

-1966-

Elvis asks Priscilla to marry him in December.

-1967-

On May 1st, Elvis and Priscilla are married in a private ceremony in Las Vegas.

-1968-

Priscilla  gives birth to Lisa Marie Presley nine months to the day after her marriage to Elvis.

In June Elvis rehearses for the taping of his first television special Commonly referred to as The 68' Comeback Special.

-1969-

The first couple of months sees Elvis recording in Memphis for the first time since 1955. 

-1970-

Elvis was finished making movies and hit the concert road.

-1971-

A long stretch of Highway 51 South, part of which runs in front of Graceland, is officially renamed Elvis Presley Boulevard. 

The first of the new street signs will go up in January of 1972.

-1972-

In early 1972, Elvis and Priscilla separate.

-1973-

Elvis makes television and entertainment history with his Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii - Via Satellite special. 

Performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena. 

-1974-

Elvis tours through all of 1974, recording another live album.

-1975-

Elvis is hospitalized again for health and prescription drug problems. 

It will get worse. He also battles his weight.

-1976-

Elvis tours in concert.

Elvis and Linda Thompson, his steady girlfriend since 1972, split up.  

Elvis meets Ginger Alden who will be his steady girlfriend until his death. 

-1977-

Elvis tours in concert.

By late morning (August 16), Elvis Presley is dead of heart failure. 

In a matter of hours the shock registers around the world.

The day the world lost Elvis.
