Behind the Christmas card angel and the stylized angels of Christmas hymns, lies a long tradtion.
"Angel", from the Latin angelus, entered the English language in very early times and denoted a supernatural being of kindly qualities.

In Jewish and Christian theory, angels are God's courtiers and are sent as messengers and helpers to men.They are usually described as beautiful, winged creatures.
