MOUNTAIN CHIEF (Ninastoko)
BLACKFOOT
By: Carl Waldman
The chief was born in the year 1848 in Southern Alberta
along the
Belly River, which is now known as the Oldman River.
He was the only inheritable chief
of the
Blackfoot Indians left. Sometime in 1886 he signed a
treaty surrendering the Blackfoot
lands east of the Sweet Grass Hills in Montana to the
federal government. Then in 1895 he granted the
Glacier National Park.
During the 1920's, he became a government public
figure
in Washington D.C. and the West notification of the Plain
Indians sign language.
He lived a long and interesting life. But everyone dies sometimes. He died in 1942, at the age of 94.
(This is based on the information at http://www.leth.net/fhc/mtnch.htm/Native.)
I wrote about this Indian Chief because I thought it was interesting and resembaled one of the different types of Indians.
