o  The student provides evidence from the text, but it is only weakly connected to the student’s answer or thesis

o  One or more example-paragraphs are weak: explanation is not given in full or it could be clearer.

o  writes in complete sentences,

o  understands basic capitalization,

o  organizes essay into paragraphs,

o  writes clear sentences,

o  uses characters’ names and not just “he” and “she”, and

o is able and willing to use Standard English
