Tori Amos Brings the Noise

MTV News Feature

The relationship that Tori Amos shares with her fans may well be studied by misguided religious historians centuries from now.

Her concerts carry the heavy air of a church tent revival, with Amos' followers swaying, wailing, and showering the songstress with gifts, tears, and bits of their soul. She is more than a musician to them; she is a mother, a healer, a saint, and a shaman.

So now, as the singer prepares to release her latest effort, "From The Choirgirl Hotel," MTV News' John Norris sat down as four such fans were granted an audience with Tori. The fans (Mellisa, Walker, Saroa, and James) came armed with questions about the new album, as well as a number of other issues they've been waiting to hear Tori address.

Despite the group's enduring affinity for Amos, there was no gushing or fawning. Instead, the group asked Amos about adapting her live show to include a full-blown band and her desire to rock. The chanteuse also went into great detail about how she considers her songs to be fully-formed "girls," and how every now and then she needs space from her fans.

In this feature, you'll find the complete transcript of the conversation as it unfolded in a New York City hotel room recently, as well as stills and QuickTime video footage of Tori casting her spell in concert.
