THE NEW DEFENSE FORCE (N.D.F.)

Establishing a base of operations and Headquarters at the site of the old Macross City, the resistance fighters from a few decades ago established a base of operations here after fending off the second invasion of Invid troops. After the past fifty years or so, many humans have come out of hiding and have resided around the base to form what is now called, "New Macross City."

Over 200,000 inhabitants now live within the city they call home, which is protected by the NDF. Built on the foundation of the Robotech Defense Force, the NDF has obligated itself to rebuilding and restoring the scorched remains of the Earth.

Lead by General Salem Martial, the NDF soldiers and officers have been trained by the experience and caliber of this veteran of war. His teachings of the hostile Zentraedi warrior and rogues have helped train pilots and soldiers to a fighting caliber that could be said as stronger than the original Robotech Defense Force could have ever dreamed or hoped of. The first Zentraedi invaders of 2009 would not have stood a chance against one the NDF's average pilots. Although they train extensively on Zentraedi, they train even more extensively on the infamous Invid. It's mind and mecha are more dangerous than any previous Zentraedi uprising, and its attack is just as deadly. However, nobody truly knows if the Invid will return to Earth. Should they though, the NDF has a few new surprises waiting for them.

BRANCHES OF THE N.D.F.

SPACE DEFENSE FLEET

The N.D.F. has deployed a large number of its troops into the Space Defense Fleet. A comparably small fleet compared to the first Zentraedi invaders, but equipped with weapons of such power that any fleet would cower in fear should they step into the sights of one of their ships. With such destructive firepower, the opportunity to use them is slim to none. The combat experience is nil, but adequate for defensive needs.

Space Defense Veritechs such as the VF-109 Hornet are the common Veritech fighter mecha stationed aboard such awesome vessels. With flight training and maneuvering performed both in atmosphere and space, fleet pilots are highly skilled in space combat tactics and maneuvering. They are trained in deep space and on zero gravity surfaces such as the moon and the hull's of all types of ships. Most pilots prefer an engagement in deep space, but the wild and careless love a challenge, especially in a tight canyon on the lunar surface-giving chase to an enemy mecha.

AIR FORCE

With just as great a threat in space as there is in Earth’s atmosphere, the need for an Air Force was required. Often deployed to patrol the skies above from any hostile bandits, the Air Force uses specially designed mecha for use in the air combat role as well as the ground role. The Veritechs the Air Force pilots use have only two modes of transformation, unlike the earlier VF models and the VF-109 Space Veritechs. The Atmosphere Veritech can only transform into Guardian and Jet modes. This eliminates high costs and production that is almost three times as fast as it is to assemble a three mode transforming Veritech. The Air Combat Veritech, or ACV-1 Foxhunter as it id dubbed, performs better in an atmosphere than the VF-109 Hornets. Even in Guardian mode the ACV-1 still can out-maneuver the VF-109. The ACV-1 is fast, sleek and agile, however it does not function even half as well in space as it does in atmosphere.

DESTROID ASSAULT FORCE

The Destroid Assault Force is even more deadly than it sounds. The army of Destroids gathered from the past and previous wars with the Zentraedi and Invid are used in service with the NDF. Mecha from the armies of the Southern Cross, the RDF and the REF can all be seen in one tactical battle group or another. The main roles of the Destroid Assault Forces are to provide Garrison duty, anti-aircraft, and close-range ground support to local towns and villages that are susceptible to attack. Many Destroid pilots are trained in anti-aircraft tactics and ground assault tactics as well. Other skills they are familiar with, but not great at, are precision construction, demolishing, and support. Advantages are mass numbers of other Destroids, heavy armor and firepower, and quickness. The disadvantages are poor maintenance, over-heating, and the fair agility. Many recruits have tried to avoid becoming a Destroid pilot, but when the few that don't qualify for anything more are left to Destroid piloting, they tend to see how great the giant behemoths really are. Between working as a team as fighter pilots and Destroid pilots, Destroid pilots are often more efficient together than fighter pilots.
