Red Shirt Brigade, from Detroit, MI, formed in November of 1998, at Central Michigan University.
At that time, the lineup was Ryan Allen (drums/vocals), Paul Bissa (bass), and Trevor Naud (guitar/vocals).
The following summer, Scott Allen was added to the lineup on keyboards and vocal duties.
Red Shirt Brigade continued to perform in various venues in Michigan during the summer and following school year.
In the summer of 2000, the band released their debut CDEP, "Mock Election and the Post Selection" on SuburbanSprawlMusic.
That summer the group also embarked on their first tour alongside Lansing's This is Adelaide.
In October of 2000, Dan Clark joined the band on bass and vocals.

"Musical pioneers, Casio lovers or kids fusing pop rock and jazz into one ball of
fire? All of the above. The hearts of indie rock’s greats and new-wave excitement
push this eclectic young band to continue to woo their audiences."
