Our Service Projects

Book Aid

We are taking part in the Guide Association Project called Book Aid 2000. We are collecting Books to send to Book Aid International. They will then be distributed mainly to countries in Africa where people do not have access to many books. As well as donating our own books we have set up collection points at the local schools and churches. The books have to be in good condition and under 5 years old otherwise they will not be able to cope with the heat and humidity. So we have been sorting through the books and we're having a book sale on March 4th to sell any books that are unsuitable to send.

We will sell Tea and Coffee as well and any money we raise will be used to buy special books like an atlas or a picture dictionary. Check back to see how it went!!!
When we've collected all our books we'll be making bookplates which will go in the books to show who donated them. We are asking local bookstores to donate too, wish us luck!!

Children in Distress Christmas Appeal

For Christmas we made gift boxes filled with sweets and donated them to the local nursing home. But our main project was the Children in Distress Shoebox appeal. We collected toys, small gifts and toiletries to fill shoeboxes to send as Christmas Gifts to children in Kosovo who wouldn't otherwise get any presents.
