Now that he has released "Nastradamus," his second studio album of 1999, Nas can now focus on his next project, a rap remake of the classic opera, "Carmen." Nas is currently working with MTV on the project, a tele-film to be called "Hip-Hopera."
"I haven't finished writing it," Nas told the MTV Radio Network. "I don't want to talk about it, but I am working on a 'Hip-Hopera.' It's like the classic 'Carmen Jones' with Dorothy Dandrige and Harry Belafonte. Instead, it's gonna be Rosario Dawson and I'll be playing the part of her boyfriend, or somethin' like that. And it's like a musical, a hip hop musical on MTV."
The 1954 film "Carmen Jones" that Nas referred to was a contemporary version of the Bizet opera with updated lyrics and an African-American cast.
No word on who else has been cast for the new Hip-Hopera version or when it will be released, but we'll keep you posted.
