Part 1 - Hope

Chapter Six

The next day and the days that followed Rebecca found herself often thinking about Scott and those few hours they had spent talking late into the afternoon in his studio. His was very intelligent and articulate. He had been out in the world and lived life.

She loved to hear him talk. His voice was low and soothing at times with a hint of a southern draw from his roots in the South. But when he laughed, which he often did his whole face turned to a wide toothful smile and his eyes sparkled with just a touch of wickedness to make him interesting.

The early part of the following week he had flown to Los Angeles to attend some early promotional meetings for the release of his album and upcoming tour.

At one of the meetings two men were jabbing at each other with what appeared to be some sort of a lighted sword that hummed. It was in fact a replica of one from a series of popular science fiction movies of late.

This seemed like great fun and Scott inquired as to where he could purchase a pair as thoughts raced into his mind that Becky’s sons would just love to have them.

Scott was directed to a large toy store in a mall not far from the Gemini Record label offices where they were at that time.

Scott wasted no time after he finished up with the meetings that afternoon. He was able to secure two very shortly and walked out of the store with them packed under his arm and all the while very pleased with himself and picturing the two boy’s faces when he presented them.

He had already become aware on his visit to their home that anything associated with those movies was definitely the toy of choice. He had stumbled onto something great here and he knew it.

Now as he walked through the mall he knew that he didn’t want to show up empty handed for Rebecca. Suddenly he felt like presenting her with something very special. A gift that would let some of the feelings that he had been experiencing lately show through

He had already been thinking about her. Thinking about that afternoon in his studio, how she seemed to stand apart. He was so at ease, so comfortable when he was near her.

He liked her right from that day they met on the bluff overlooking the Lake. He knew the moment that she recognized him but she was shy and not at all like so many of the women he had encountered throughout his life. He really did like her paintings and as he studied the one that he had purchased from her he began to think more about asking her to do some for him. Linda did think it was a fool notion and had told him. He called anyway.

He enjoyed the afternoons spent sitting near her on the grass while she painted. He loved the out-of-doors and the warm summer sun and he found himself looking forward to her visits. She was just so nice to talk to.

She wasn’t exactly beautiful compared to Linda, but very pretty he would agree. She was short and nicely proportioned. Her waist was narrow, her hips were well rounded but with relation to her breasts that were full and alluring under the T-shirt or sleeveless top that she usually wore.

He loved to watch her paint with dainty long fingers gently stroking colors and fine lines onto the canvas. On the days that she would come in shorts her legs were smooth and supple in the warm summer sun.

She wore her shoulder length fawn colored hair pulled back into a ponytail at the nape of her neck. Her face was usually scrubbed clean and except for that one day when he caught her shortly after she had gotten home from work had never seen her with makeup. She didn’t need it, he thought. Her skin was smooth with a hint of blush about the cheeks that deepened when she smiled. Soft blue eyes crinkled when she laughed which he seemed to be able to make her do often.

He just loved to spend time and talk with her. Why had he had to lie to Linda that afternoon?

As he was walking through the mall he kept thinking, something special. He knew what he wanted, at least that was the way he felt.

Entering a woman’s store he chose a silky, short chemise in soft pastel colors with thin straps. He assumed that she might not have anything as nice and thought it would make her feel good to receive something so pretty. His thoughts drifted as he started to envision her wearing it....for him. He had it gift wrapped.

An odd feeling crept through him as he exited the store, a shiver of guilt, maybe remorse. He had done what he had felt and that was bringing on these feelings of anxiety. Linda. He knew in his heart that he couldn’t go home without something for Linda. She was easier. He knew what she liked. He found another store and purchased a large bottle of her favorite perfume that he knew she loved and had that gift wrapped also.

Back at the hotel that night he could not keep his thoughts from confusing him. He wasn’t even sure what he wanted to do any more. The gift was too much. You can’t give her lingerie. Even though you only mean it to be a friendly gesture and a gift that you think she will love, it is almost certain to mean something else. Maybe you want it to.

Scott flew back to Chicago the following Tuesday evening. Linda was not at the apartment when he got back in the cab. He opened his suitcase on the bed. He left the two lighted sabers jammed inside. He removed the two gift wrapped boxes and slid them into one of his drawers. There was a message from Linda on the machine to meet her and a few friends at a club that they frequented. He changed and left again.

The evening was fun and filled with good friends, laughter and good drink. He had been so busy lately that some of these people he had not seen for some time. It felt good to enjoy their company. Linda was very much at home in these surroundings. She was a city dweller born and bred.

When she and Scott first met she was doing a little modeling for local Chicago-based advertising agencies. She was beautiful. The dark angular lines of her features were set off by her long mahogany silken hair. She had thin graceful arms and stood five foot, six on her sleek legs that seemed to be endless. Scott was attracted to her immediately.

She entered his life when he needed someone who would give him the best of both worlds. She flowed easily in this fast paced music business that he moved in yet she was also looking for more stability herself. She was a very independent woman who knew how to handle herself and needed no one to lean on. Scott liked that. He didn’t need someone clingy.

They had started seeing each other and it was only a natural progression as she moved into his place in Michigan and he to her apartment in Chicago.

He had been divorced and wasn’t looking for that commitment. Her intentions were mutual, although never married herself. They were just together and both seemed to compliment the other. He was very much in love with Linda and that night as they partied with their friends he felt that all very clearly.

The lighted dial on his watch showed one-thirty a.m. as they exited the cab back at their apartment building. The feeling of knowing what was right came over Scott in the bedroom as he opened the drawer and pulled out the larger of the two packages and presented it to Linda.

She slipped into the silky lingerie. She is so beautiful, he thought. He pulled her into him.

The thin straps set gently on her smooth dark defined shoulders. He ran his fingertips along the inside of the straps feeling her soft skin. Sliding them off her shoulders he knew that if she would ever wear the chemise all night it wasn’t going to be that night.

Lifting his knee into her he felt the cool silkiness of the lingerie mingled with her warm wetness as she rubbed herself along his upper leg. His hot mouth found hers open and willing to accept him. Moving his desirous tongue down along her neck and onto her breasts that he now cupped and held so firmly in his hands he devoured first one and then the other with hungry passion. A few moments later Linda’s manicured toes stepped out of the silky pile that had fallen to the floor.

Holding Linda later in his arms he felt sure. He had done what he knew in his heart to be right.
