Venus in the 12th House ******************* Greek mythology tells us of the strange circumstances surrounding Aphrodite's birth. Saturn castrated his father Uranus and threw the dismembered phallus into the sea. Aphrodite emerged from the white foam which formed on the waves. It may be difficult to accept that the life formation of the goddess of love and beauty was the result of such a gruesome act; but in the twelfth house it is often this metaphor that comes into effect. Sometimes life is made sweeter by experiencing pain, loss, and suffering. With Venus in the twelfth house, you have an inherent need to get in touch with some force greater than yourself. Venus promotes a love of abandonment, of devoting oneself to something vast and great. You may be striving for an intangible ideal of affection and grace which promises fulfillment or perhaps a rekindling of a long past state of contentment. You will try to quench this desire by seeking such bonding and affection in another person, and you long to dedicate yourself to someone you love. This is not only an indication that you expect too much from one person but also that you have a deep-rooted feeling that it is not enough to love one person alone. On a practical level, you may find contentment when you are alone or in a quiet, secluded place. Perhaps you work in an art gallery or museum, or perhaps you dedicate yourself to the forgotten souls in hospitals or similar institutions. Some may be drawn to the theater where you might find employment as a scenery painter, wardrobe mistress, or as a make-up artist. You enjoy mysteries and are attracted to mysticism. Ultimately, you will need to learn to positively integrate your unconscious feelings with those of your surface conscious mind.
