Tim Haan

Name: Tim Haan
Years Teaching in WPS: 11
Alumnus: Aquinas College

This director has been teaching my class of band students ever since we started band. well, and for a few years before us, too, so he knows his stuff. His weapon of choice is a small black box with an incredibly loud loudspeaker attached to it, known as the box or "the doctor." with this as his weapon, some of us believe he is the 6th missing power ranger, his super power being the "haan-osaurus rex," "haan-odactyl," or the "haan-odon." He has constantly been a backbone and reinforcement to the band, whether it be his speech about being an "x-rated band," or getting "drunk on liquor and stoned on grass." Regardless of the number of times we had to "get ready to play the fight song," and end up watching the other team score a touchdown, we all still cherish him. He is the main director at Wyoming Park and has worked with the middle school brass since the beginning of time also. He occasionally (once in a blue moon) joins the other two directors with a under that blazing sun (okay the blue tarp) at band camp in the 1,500 foot high scaffolding. Dancing was never his high point, which is why there is a picture of him being wheeled around the dance floor on a chair by his twin, i mean Jon DeBlaey, at band camp last year. I'm not really sure if he ever left that chair the whole night. His only downfall is a knack for not having things when other people need them, like, oh, say, competition scores by example. Once in awhile we all get a surprise when his wife brings in Emily and we all get together and coo, and then get back to business as usual. We all had fun in Toronto, especially watching him willingly face the wall while going up to breakfast in a glass elevator (so it was about 300 meters high, oh well). While he gets up early in the mornings, driving through 70 inches of snow to "conduct" jazz band as a zero hour (and he lives an hour away), he amazingly still keeps his sanity. While neatness (keeping an 8' X 10' office clean) may not be his top priority, the goodness of the band as a whole is near it (the top priority, not keeping the office clean!).
