Opinion Paper
The Heidelberg Street Project.
Back in the 90’s an artist named Tyree Guyton began
an art project on his yard in Detroit.
He took everyday items and “decorated” his property. It grew to enormous proportions and he
eventually took over the entire block.
This became a famous landmark and was visited by many, to the point it
became a neighborhood hindrance much like Christmas lights at a house down the
block. The city of Detroit stepped in
and legally removed the “eyesore”.

Your paper is to
address this…. is this ART, thus to be
protected or is it a neighborhood detriment.
Could the neighbors sell their property etc? Was the city right in its decision and effort to remove or was
this to be protected at all cost?
The web page says:
“The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art environment in the heart of Detroit a bridge - a seed - and a beacon for the people of Heidelberg Street, the city of Detroit, and beyond. It is a demonstration of the power of creativity to transform all those whose lives it touches”
