To most Billy the Kid aficionados, the photo on the left is instantly recognizable as that of Tom O. Folliard, the Kid's stalwart sidekick. The origins of this photo are unknown; it just found its way into history books decades ago, leaving its authenticity questionable, especially since it doesn't seem to match contemporary descriptions of Tom. On the right, we have a photo from Sallie's collection depicting a similar looking young man, especially regarding the hair, slight mouth, and eyes. If this could be proven to be the same man in the more common photo, it would seem to support both being Tom, as it's unlikely two photos from two sources depicting the same man could be both erroneously identified as the same subject.
