SPECIAL GUESTS BIOS

KAREN COOLEY

Karen Cooley is currently one of the premiere armwrestlers in the world. Her first tournament was 10 years ago in Grayling, Michigan with the proceeds of the event going to the Special Olympics. She won that one and that got her excited enough to compete in other tournaments. Since then she has pulled in 15 state titles, 7 national, and is the current world champion at 50 kilos. Karen was also invited to the Goodwill Games in Russia and the Arnold Classic Armwrestling Challenge. Her schedule would make one wonder how she finds the time to maintain her world class level of success. Karen has been married for almost 15 years and has an 8 yr old son & a 5 yr old daughter. She works full-time for Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Systems, does work for her numerous sponsors (Smokey Mountain Inc., Addict Activewear, Swim-N-Fit, & Max Muscle), trains about 6 days a week and competes in tournaments all around the world. All that makes me tired just thinking about it. She has also appeared on the Maury Povich Show, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee, I've Got A Secret, and has been featured in 2 issues (April & July) of Women's Physique World magazine. Her training program consists of a 2 day on 1 day off rotation with free weights. For cardiovascular work she does a combination of the stairmaster, jump rope, and Tae Bo. The arms get specialized training (that her opponents probably wish they knew). Other activities she enjoys to keep her in shape are softball, volleyball, and jogging. Karen's likeable personality combined with her beauty & strength make her a great spokesperson for the sport of armwrestling.March 2000

PAUL URCHICK

Paul Urchick has overcome serious career ending injuries to become one of the best powerlifters in the world. On October 29th, 1995, while competing at the world championships, he suffered a severe knee injury and a torn tendon in his tricep. It occurred while setting up with 859lbs on his 3rd squat attempt. The squat racks were pulled away before he could set up with the weight and his right knee buckled in. Since the injury Paul has to his credit several world and national powerlifting titles. His well rounded lifting style makes him a very tough opponent on the platform. In training Paul has squatted over 1000lbs and benched close to 600lbs.March 2000
