JOHN ZEMMIN
John Zemmin is one of the best benchers in the world at 242 and 275. In the past year he has captured the APF National and WPC World bench titles. His best bench at 242 is 650 pounds. He recently became the newest member of the 700-pound bench club getting 705 while weighing 259. He also squats over 700 pounds and has totaled over 1900. John is from the Downriver area and trains at Rob’s Gym. |
CLAY BRANDENBURG
Clay Brandenburg is currently closing in on the 700-pound barrier in competition. This past year he won the APF National and WPC World bench titles in the super heavy weight division. Among the lifters he beat for the world title was world record holder, Anthony Clark. At age 27, he still has his eyes set on the 800-pound mark. Clay is from the Downriver area and trains at Rob’s Gym. |
Mary Stack
Mary lives in Royal Oak, Michigan and is a graduate of Oakland Community College. Her goal is to help and encourage other people with disabilities to be active in sports and in life. She credits her many accomplishments to the people around her and the encouragement they have given. Mary has a condition called pseudohypoparathyroidism, which was diagnosed when she was 9 years old. It is a thyroid disease in which the calcium from the bones and muscles are turned into calcified fatty tumors, they continue to grow and are unable to be removed. When she was 17 she started needing a wheelchair to get around. She recently started using crutches to walk for short distances. Everyday she works on being more independent. Among her favorite wheelchair sports are: basketball, shot put, discus, javelin, and powerlifting. |
